Niagara Falls Brewing Company |
Walnut Ave between 2nd and 3rd St. Niagara Falls New York |
In 1878 Albert Sigel came to Niagara Falls, where he settled. In partnership with his brother and Mr. Meyer they organized the Niagara Falls Brewing Company. They built a brewery on 3rd Street, which was considered among the largest breweries in that part of the country. During prohibition, they attempted to stay in business selling soft drinks and near beer. By 1922 the company had effectively ceased operations. Several attempts to maintain the business continued until the mid 1930's. My great grandfather, Lothar Jacob Ulrich Came to Niagara Falls 1903 and went to work as the Brew Master for the Niagara Falls Brewing Company. A position he held until 1911 when he went to work for the Cataract Brewing Company. While in Niagara Falls he developed a new beer, Spray Beer which my grandfather described as a very light, clear beer different from the traditional German beers. What follows are photographs I've collected. |
